This is the Board’s report on a compliance audit of Non Replaceable Forest Licence A55525 held by Qwa’eet Forest Products Ltd. The licence does not have specific borders within which activities take place; however, the primary operating area is located north and south of the town of Merritt, BC. Qwa’eet also operated on several cutblocks located northeast of Princeton. The operating area for Qwa’eet consists of fairly flat and dry upland plateaus with few riparian features or areas of unstable terrain.

This is the Board’s report on a compliance audit of Forest Licence A18690, held by Ainsworth Lumber Company Ltd. The operating area for this licence is located within the Kamloops Forest District, primarily around the communities of Cache Creek and Ashcroft. The audit examined Ainsworth’s field activities and obligations for the period of July 1, 1999 to July 19, 2000, related to operational planning; timber harvesting; silviculture; fire protection; construction, maintenance and deactivation of roads; and construction and maintenance of bridges.

Forest Practices Code Enforcement in Upper Bridge River, Northwest of Gold Bridge, BC in the Lillooet Forest District

The complaint was filed by an environmental organization, the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, which was concerned that harvesting in the Upper Bridge River area would impact on an adjacent wilderness area. The Sierra Legal Defence Fund frequently acted on behalf of the Western Canada Wilderness Committee. For convenience, the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, the Sierra Legal Defence Fund and members of both organizations are collectively referred to as “the complainant” in this report.

In mid-August 1996, the complainant reviewed a series of operational planning documents for an area in Ainsworth Lumber Co. Ltd.’s (the licensee) Upper Bridge River operating area northwest of Gold Bridge, BC. The complainant also did a field inspection of forest practices in the area. The complainant was concerned that operational plans and forest practices did not comply with the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act and related regulations.

This is a report on a compliance audit of Forest Licence A18696 held by Tolko Industries Ltd. and managed by the company’s Nicola division in Merritt.The audit examined planning and field activities for the period June 1, 1996, to June 15, 1997, to assess compliance with the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act and related regulations (the Code).
