Compliance audit of Forest Licence A18151, held by Canadian Forest Products Ltd. (Canfor)in the Dawson Creek Timber Supply Area. Canfor’s planning and practices complied with legislative requirements and their approach to harvesting reflects natural disturbance patterns with regard to biodiversity and visual quality values.
The audit examined BCTS’s operational planning; timber harvesting; road construction, maintenance and deactivation; silviculture; and fire protection practices for the period of August 1, 2002, to August 22, 2003.
As detailed in the Report from the Auditor, the audit found that except for the failure to meet free-growing obligations, the operational planning; timber harvesting; silviculture; road construction maintenance and deactivation; and fire-protection planning and activities of BCTS were in compliance with the Forest Practices Code, in all significant respects.
This compliance audit is the third of five annual audits of compliance with the Forest Practices Code as well as forestry-related requirements of the Nisga’a Final Agreement, and the second audit of government enforcement on Nisga’a lands.
